THE THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW WHEN A LOVED ONE HAS BEEN ARRESTED
1. Know where the person is detained. If you receive a call from your loved one, one of the most important questions you need to ask is where the person is being detained. This will help us narrow down where the person is and the reason they were arrested.
2. DO NOT PAY FOR A CRIMINAL BOND WITHOUT FIRST CONSULTING WITH AN ATTORNEY One of the most common errors made during this process is to pay the criminal bond when a person has an immigration hold. Most of the time you are simply throwing away your money when you pay for a criminal bond.
3. Understanding what an "ICE HOLD" is. An ice hold or immigration hold does not mean that your loved one is going to be deported. The hold is simply a notice to the local jails that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has an interest in this person and upon release that person will be released to ICE.
If your loved one has bee arrested and they have an ICE hold, please contact a criminal and immigration attorney. The process requires the knowledge of both a criminal attorney and an immigration attorney.
